Speedo Gears |

Does anybody know where to find the speedo gears for the pre 66 transmissions? 66 and up has the gear with the shaft on it and they are a bigger gear, I can
find them all over but havent found a place for the gear that i need. The gear that i need looks like a newer ford style with a clip that holds it on (these
may work I haven't gotten my hands on one yet). thanks

I thought I remembered someone posting a link to new reproductions somewhere. Will do a little searching and see if I can find something.

Well I've spent awhile searchng and can't seem to find any new or repro ones.... Mustang speedo gear....1960-79
and from 83-98...
After all that I see that none of the potential replacements have the gears cut in the same direction as the original mopar one...Never mind...

I had a T-5 one in my hand today , but besides being cut the wrong direction it was way smaller than what i had comparing 18teeth to 18 teeth. The one in the
top picture is the one I am looking for, I am going to try and access the last parts cars I have and see if I can get lucky enough to get a higher teeth count
than 16, I would like an 18 or 19 .

The ones I found on E-bay ranged from $50 for a good used one to over $200 for a NOS one!!!
I'm curious as to why the 727 in the 64/65 cars used this speedo gear and then in 66 they went to the other style they used up into the 90's. Is there any way to convert yours? I have to admit I'm ignorant on these trannies.

Yeah the 65 transmissions are kind of a cross between the 64 and the 66, 64 and older had a front and rear pump (also in 65) and has a bolt on yoke in the
rear, also cables instead of linkage for shifting, where as the 66 had only a front pump, slip yoke and linkage. The 65 had 2 pumps, cables and a slip yoke,
there is no way that I can see that i could change this over to the newer style without spending major cash and having a rear housing made from billet. The
speedo gears are wat different in size also so....... I won't pay 50 dollars for a gear, would probably pay 20 but to still find one. From all my
calculations I need a 18 tooth Dark Purple gear, well until then I guess I will just keep using the Garmin.

That's basically what I said when my local Chrysler dealer parts counter guy said $125 CDN for a new 1966-and-up 32-tooth speedo gear.

at the wreckers.

update | ||
|
Update my purple gear isn't stripped out, now i am really confused. I changed the cable the other day and didn't put the purple gear back in because i
thought it was bad. I am now hoping that for some reason the cable wasn't in the gear and thats why it didn't work. Speedo is workin right now but has
a 16 tooth gear in it, I will try to change it back tomorrow if its not raining......
