1965 Plymouth Sport Fury Convertible
Original:383-4V, automatic, power steering, manual drum brakes, 3.23 gears Currently:440-dual 4V, manual shift automatic, manual steering, manual front disc brakes, 3.91 gears I have owned and drag raced this car since 1980. BadVert has gone from a 15.49 to 12.35 (1/4 mile times). I am retiring the Vert form racing and building a fresh 440 along with a repaint and new top. I am also mini-tubbing it for larger tires. Future plans include replacing the tunnel ram with a 6-71 blower. I am just having fun putting the 'C' in 'wicked'. |

My '77 Gran Fury Brougham, which was originally sold new in Luxembourg, now resides in Sweden, and has genuine 36K on themeter, all factory original down to every nut and bolt, even the factory paintmarks on the bolts are still there...

I ran 12's with a single 4bl setup on an Edelbrock TM4 intake. That was an awsome setup. I was running mid 14's with the 383 4 bbl on an Edelbrock DB4B intake, very mild cam and 3.23 gears. I broke the trans and decided to go with a 440. I installed big valves, ported the heads (952s) same cam (Crane 'Blazer'), 3.91 gears and went 13.5 right out of the box. It took a lot of tuning and suspension work to get it to go 12.35. When I put the tunnel ram on, it felt pretty good on the street but it just blew away the tires on the track. I went 13.9 @ 110 mph with a 2.9 60 ft time. I looked like John Force. I tried leaving in second gear and still went up in smoke. I attribute the poor traction more to the old suspension than to the extra power. I haven't run it since as I was told I needed a roll bar. A custom made, bolt in (NHRA-legal) roll bar was insanely expensive. I building a 65 Belvedere post car to race in. The Vert is now strictly for fun. I have considered a switch to a six-pack or low profile 2-four setup but I have always wanted something with a Blower. I figure, if you're going to be different, be REALLY different-with a BIG hammer.
FYI-SORRY for the Huge pictures, I finally figured out how to fix that. |

1966 Fury I two door post sedan stripper. No options (even has "radio delete". Taxi package. Original owner took deliver 04/66, used it as a daily driver for ten years. Parked it for the next 30 years until I purchased it in 2005. Slant six/3 on the tree converted to 440/4 speed. Except for routine maintenance parts, car is all original (including spare tire).
No budget to restore 100% but picking away at it slowly.
